Platforms, System Requirements & Compatibility
This should be the first section, and the second section should be the troubleshooting part
Q: What DJ software is PulseDJ compatible with?
A: PulseDJ offers official, seamless integration with the following major DJ platforms:
Serato DJ Pro
Rekordbox
Virtual DJ
Traktor
djay PRO
Q: Do I need to stop using my current DJ software to use PulseDJ?
A: Not at all. PulseDJ is designed as a powerful companion tool that runs alongside your primary DJ software. It enhances your existing setup with features like the PulseDJHOT 100 and intelligent suggestions, while you continue to mix on the platform you are most comfortable with.
Q: Does PulseDJ work with my DJ controller, mixer, or CDJs?
A: Yes. Because PulseDJ integrates directly with your DJ software, it works with any hardware (controllers, mixers, players, etc.) that is compatible with that software. There is no need to change your physical setup.
Q: How does the integration work?
A: PulseDJ integrates with your setup in a uniquely safe and stable way. It works by reading the library and history files that your supported DJ software creates as you play your music.
It's important to note that PulseDJ does not connect directly to or "hook into" your DJ software. This one-way reading of data is a deliberate design choice for performance stability. Because PulseDJ runs as a completely separate application, it is impossible for it to interfere with your performance or, most importantly, cause your main DJ software to crash during a set.
This method allows you to get accurate, real-time suggestions and analytics with the complete peace of mind that your DJ performance remains isolated and secure.
Q: My DJ software isn't on this list. Will it still work?
A: Currently, we only guarantee full functionality and support for the platforms listed above. We are continuously working to expand our compatibility. We prioritise future integrations based on user feedback. If you use a different program, please let our team know on product@pulseparty.io
Q: Does PulseDJ have a version for Windows?
A: A PulseDJ Windows version is coming soon. Watch this space.
Q: What Minimum Operating System does PulseDJrequire?
A: PulseDJrequires MacOS version 11,12,13,14,15,16
Q: Does PulseDJ support Apple Silicon and Intel Macs?
A: Yes. PulseDJ supports modern macOS on both Apple Silicon and Intel machines that meet the minimum OS requirements.
Q: Can I run PulseDJ on multiple computers?
A: Yes, you can install and run PulseDJ on multiple computers.
For a seamless experience, be sure to log in with the same username on each machine. This ensures that your full playing history is synced, allowing you to benefit from the personalized "MyStyle" suggestions that PulseDJ has learned from you across all your devices.
For the best real-time suggestions, you should also ensure that each installation can access your DJ software’s library and history files.
Q: Does PulseDJ support multiple libraries or external drives?
A: Yes. If you keep music on external drives or multiple libraries, make sure PulseDJ’s Profile settings point to the correct history/library paths so suggestions remain accurate. (Insert image of profile page)
Q: Will PulseDJ change any of my crates, playlists, or track files?
A: No. PulseDJ reads library and history data but does not modify your audio files, crates, or playlists.
Setup & Normal Operation (Per DJ Software)
Q: Can PulseDJ interfere with my DJ software?
A: When PulseDJloads for the first time, it will ask you to set the Rekordbox/VirtualDJ "Time to save to history" parameter to 1 seconds. After that, PulseDJnever interacts directly with Serato or any other DJ software. It simply reads the history files that your software writes to disk to understand what tracks you've played, so you're always in full control of your setup.
Q: Why is my PulseDJis not working for me?
A: Serato PulseDJ Troubleshooting
Locate Your Serato Folder with the Wizard PulseDJ typically finds your Serato history files automatically. However, if you've installed Serato to a non-standard location, you may need to quickly show PulseDJ where to look. Do not uninstall and reinstall Serato.
Instead, just use the PulseDJ Setup Wizard:
Open PulseDJ and go to the Settings menu.
Launch the Setup Wizard.
Select Serato from the list of supported platforms.
When prompted, click the "Browse" button and navigate to your Serato data folder (the default path is typically
<Your Home Directory>\Music\\_Serato_
).Select the folder and complete the wizard. PulseDJ will now know where to find your Serato data.
Ensure You're Using the Correct User Account Make sure you are logged into your computer with the same user account you use when running Serato. Serato saves its history files within that specific user's profile, so PulseDJ needs to be running on the same account to read them.

Close both your VirtualDJ application and PulseDJ.
Re-open PulseDJ. It will prompt you to update your VirtualDJ settings. Click "Continue".
Open VirtualDJ and play a track to see suggestions appear in PulseDJ.

A: Traktor PulseDJ Troubleshooting
Initial Setup: To connect PulseDJ with Traktor for the first time, follow these steps:
Close both your Traktor application and PulseDJ.
Re-open PulseDJ. It will prompt you to update your Traktor settings. Click "Continue".
Open Traktor and ensure your layout is in "Mixer" or "Extended" mode.
Navigate to the Recorder tab (usually on the right) and click the antenna icon to enable broadcasting.
Play a track in Traktor to see suggestions appear in PulseDJ.
Troubleshooting:
Multiple Traktor Versions: If you have two versions of Traktor installed, open PulseDJ, go to your profile page, and click "Platform Settings" to ensure PulseDJ is pointing to the version you are actively using.
Broadcast Settings: In Traktor's settings, verify that the broadcasting address is set to
127.0.0.1
and the broadcasting port is28551
.
Troubleshooting & Known Issues
Q: My suggestion panel is blank, even after I play a few tracks. What's wrong?
A: This can happen for a few reasons. Here are the most common solutions:
Update PulseDJ: First, make sure you are running the latest version of PulseDJ. Download the most recent installer from the official website (www.PulseDJ.com), as this often resolves recognition issues.
External Drives: If your music is on an external drive, ensure PulseDJ has the correct permissions and file paths set up in the "Profile" settings to read your library and history.
Check Your DJ Software Version: A user reported this issue with Serato 4.0. Ensuring both your DJ software and PulseDJ are up-to-date can help resolve compatibility conflicts.
Q: The app won't let me sign in. What should I do?
A: This appears to be an uncommon issue. If you are unable to sign in, please email the PulseDJ support team directly at product@pulseparty.io. Include the email address you used to register so they can investigate the problem for you.
Q: The language in my app is stuck in German after an update. How can I fix it?
A: This was a known bug that has since been fixed. Please update your software by downloading and installing the latest version (2.7.2 or newer) from the PulseDJ website. This should resolve the language issue. If not, check the language options in the settings menu.
Q: I’m using VirtualDJ, but the "My Style" section says "not enough history for this song." How do I get it to see my play history?
A: The "My Style" feature works by reading your DJ software's history file. This issue usually occurs if VirtualDJ is installed in a non-default location or if you are playing tracks from an external drive, which prevents PulseDJ from finding the history file automatically.
Solution: You can manually set the correct file path. Go to the "Profile" settings in PulseDJ and ensure the path to your VirtualDJ history file is correct.
Note: The "My Style" feature needs time to learn your habits. Ensure PulseDJ is open and running alongside your sets so it can analyze your track selections and build your unique profile.
Q: How do you get PulseDJ to work properly with VirtualDJ? With Serato it detects tracks automatically, but with VDJ I have to copy and paste.
A: This is likely related to PulseDJ not having access to your VirtualDJ history file. Go into your Profile settings within PulseDJ and check that the software has access to your histories. Make sure the file path for your VirtualDJ history is set correctly. INSERT SCREENSHOT
Q: PulseDJ can’t find my history after I moved my library. What should I do?
A: Open Profile settings and update the paths to your DJ software’s history and library folders. Restart PulseDJ and your DJ app, then play a track.
Q: Suggestions seem off after I retagged BPM or key in my library.
A: If library BPMs were changed, those values guide PulseDJ. Let your updated analysis settle by playing a few tracks so the system realigns to your metadata.
Q: PulseDJ isn’t detecting the currently playing track.
A: Make sure your DJ software is supported, you’re on a recent version, and that PulseDJ has permission to read the correct history file. Restart both apps after adjusting paths.
Q: I’m seeing duplicate entries in suggestions.
A: Duplicates often stem from duplicate files or multiple libraries. Consolidate your library and confirm the correct paths in Profile settings.
Q: My suggestions panel shows irrelevant genres.
A: Play a few tracks from your target genre to re-contextualize the set. PulseDJ adapts to your current direction and recent history.
Getting Started with PulseDJ
Q: How do I install PulseDJ for the first time?
A: Download the latest installer from the official website and follow the on-screen steps. After installation, open PulseDJ once with your DJ software closed so PulseDJ can detect your setup, then reopen your DJ software and start playing a track.
Q: Do I need an account to use PulseDJ?
A: Yes, you need to create a PulseDJ account to use the app, but it’s quick, simple and free. The app guides you through the sign-up process.
Q: How long does it take until PulseDJ starts giving good suggestions?
A: That's a great question, as PulseDJ offers two distinct types of suggestions that work differently.
PulseDJSuggestions (In-Set): These suggestions are powerful from the moment you start. During a set, PulseDJanalyzes the last three tracks you've played to recommend what could come next. This means the suggestions adapt in real-time to the specific style and energy of the set you are currently building.
MyStyle Suggestions (Personalized): These are the suggestions that get better over time. MyStyle analyzes your entire playing history and all your past sets to learn your unique taste as a DJ. The more you use PulseDJ, the more accurate and personalized these recommendations will become.
Q: Can I use PulseDJ offline after setup?
A: Yes. Once PulseDJ builds a local database from your history, it can work offline. An internet connection can improve freshness of suggestions and charts.
About PulseDJ & Pricing
Q: Is PulseDJfree? How does PulseDJmake money?
A: We currently provide all of Pulse’s functionality for free, as we are still in Beta.
We hope that in the future, most of PulseDJwill remain free, with some premium features allowing us to continue providing the rest for free.
PulseDJis funded by Zeev Ventures from California. This gives us the privilege of operating for a few years without being profitable as we build its value for you.
Q: How do I report an issue or provide feedback?
A: you can report issues or provide feedback directly through the PulseDJapp or by contacting our support team at product@pulseparty.io
Q: Is there a paid version or premium features coming?
A: PulseDJ is currently free while in Beta. We aim to keep most features free long term, with potential premium options added later to support ongoing development.
Internet Connection & Offline Use
Q: Do I need an internet connection (Wi-Fi) when using PulseDJ?
No, you can use PulseDJ at your parties and gigs completely offline.
An internet connection is only required for a period of about an hour immediately following the initial installation. During this one-time process, PulseDJ analyzes your music library and history to build a local database on your computer. Once that database is created, you no longer need to be online to use the software.
While it's not required, having an active internet connection during a live set can further improve the suggestions you get in real-time.
Accounts, Licensing & Updates
Q: How do I update to the latest version of PulseDJ?
A: PulseDJ is designed to make updating simple. Once installed, the software will automatically notify you whenever a new version is available. Simply follow the on-screen prompts to update.
If you prefer, you can also update manually by downloading the newest version from our official website.
In either case, you can safely install the new version directly over your existing one. All of your settings, library data, and history will remain intact.
Q: Where can I read the full changelog for each release?
A: We’re working on a public changelog page. In the meantime, check the download page and our Facebook group for version notes and highlights.
Features: The PulseDJHOT 100
Q: What is the PulseDJHOT 100?
A: The PulseDJHOT 100 is a real-time music chart that shows you the top 100 most popular tracks currently being played by the entire PulseDJ community. It's designed to help you discover new music, identify trends, and get inspiration for your sets.
Q: Where does the data for the chart come from?
A: The chart is generated from anonymous, aggregated play data from all active PulseDJDJs. It directly reflects what tracks are actually being mixed and played on dance floors, making it one of the most accurate and current charts available for DJs.
Q: Can I customize or filter the PulseDJHOT 100?
A: Yes! Customization is the key feature. You can filter the chart to find the music that is most relevant to you and your audience.
Q: What filter options are available?
A: You can filter the PulseDJHOT 100 in two main ways:
By Country: See what's trending in a specific country or select 'Global' for a worldwide view.
By Genre: Narrow down the results to a specific genre, from Afro-House to Techno, to find the hottest tracks in your preferred style.
Q: How often is the chart updated?
A: The PulseDJHOT 100 is updated continuously to reflect what DJs are playing right now. This ensures you always have access to the freshest and most relevant track data.
Q: Why should I use the PulseDJHOT 100?
A: It gives you a competitive edge. You can instantly see which tracks are gaining momentum, discover hidden gems in specific regions or genres, and confidently pick songs you know are proven to get a great crowd reaction.
Q: Can PulseDJ Focus on the charts for specific countries/regions?
A: Yes, simply click the flag icon in the top right of the interface, and select your chosen country. PulseDJ will now provide recommendations based on our data in that region.
Q: How do regional filters affect the HOT 100?
A: When you choose a country, the chart uses play data from DJs in that region so you see what’s trending locally. Switch to Global for worldwide trends.
Q: Does the HOT 100 include older classics or only new releases?
A: It reflects what DJs are playing now, which can include both new releases and evergreen classics that are trending in sets.
Q: Can I view historical HOT 100 data or see how a track trended over time?
A: Historical charting is on our roadmap. For now, the HOT 100 focuses on real-time popularity.
PulseDJ Features: Intelligent Track Suggestions (BPM & Key Matching)
Q: What new information is in the suggestions panel?
A: We've added two crucial pieces of data to every track in the suggestions panel:
BPM (Beats Per Minute): The tempo of the track.
Key: The musical key of the track (e.g., 8A, 5B).
Q: Why are some of the suggested tracks highlighted in green?
A: The green highlight is a visual indicator for harmonic compatibility. If a suggested track lights up green, it means its musical key is a perfect match for the track you are currently playing. This allows you to identify harmonically compatible tracks instantly.
Q: How does this feature help me as a DJ?
A: This feature makes "mixing in key" (harmonic mixing) effortless. By playing tracks that are in the same or a compatible key, your transitions will sound smoother and more professional. The green highlight system saves you time and lets you focus on the creative aspects of your mix, rather than searching for key information.
Q: Do I need to do anything to enable this feature?
A: No, this feature is built directly into the track suggestions panel. Simply play a track, and the software will automatically analyze and highlight compatible suggestions for you.
Q: Does PulseDJ support Camelot notation for keys?
A: Yes. Key info such as 8A or 5B appears in the suggestions panel so you can mix harmonically.
Q: Can I prioritize certain genres or artists in suggestions?
A: You can steer PulseDJ via your playing patterns and the filters you apply. We’re exploring additional user controls to bias suggestions further.
Q: Can I hide tracks or mark a suggestion as “not relevant”?
A: We’re considering a “mute” or “hide” control for suggestions. For now, keep playing the styles you want more of, and PulseDJ will learn.
Q: Can I favorite or bookmark suggestions to revisit later?
A: Yes, this feature exists in the Mac version. (INSERT SCREENSHOT)
Using PulseDJ: Loading Tracks & Workflow
Q: Can I load a track from PulseDJdirectly to my DJ software?
A: You can't load songs directly from PulseDJinto Serato's deck, but there's a quick way to do it: If you click on a song in Pulse, it will copy the track name to your clipboard. You can then paste it into Serato’s search bar to find and load it instantly.
Q: How do I load a suggested track into my DJ software? It seems impossible to copy and paste from PulseDJ into Serato.
A: You can't drag and drop, but you can copy the track name to your clipboard. Simply click on any track suggestion in PulseDJ. This action automatically copies the track name and artist. Then, go to your DJ software's search bar and paste it (e.g., using Cmd+V on Mac or Ctrl+V on Windows).
Q: How do I load a suggested track from PulseDJ onto a deck in my DJ software?
A: PulseDJ is designed for track discovery and inspiration. While you cannot drag and drop or directly load a track from PulseDJ (as this is not supported by the DJ software itself), the process is simple:
Click on a song name in the PulseDJ suggestion panel.
This action automatically copies the track's name to your clipboard.
Go to your DJ software's search bar and paste the name (e.g., Cmd+V on Mac or Ctrl+V on Windows) to find and load the track from your library.
Q: Finding a track in PulseDJand then searching for it in my software seems too slow for a live gig. Is there a faster way?
A: The copy-paste method is currently the fastest way to bridge PulseDJ with your main software. PulseDJ's primary role is to provide you with ideas for the next track to play. By clicking to copy and pasting into your library search, you can locate your desired track in seconds without needing to type anything.
Suggestions Panel Behavior & Indicators
Q: Why does PulseDJsometimes recommend a track that is more than 10 bpms away from the track I’m currently playing?
A: PulseDJdoesn't mind if the keylock is on or off. Regarding the recommendations that are way off the BPM -- PulseDJonly suggests +-10 bpms from the currently playing track. However, if one of the tracks has had its BPM modified in your library, then PulseDJuses that as the 'real' bpm and that could be the cause.
Q: How can I know the BPM of the tracks that PulseDJsuggests?
A: PulseDJlimits the suggested tracks to not more than 10bpm difference from the currently playing track. You can see the BPM of each of the suggested tracks by hovering with your mouse over them
Q: What does the green color bar next to the song mean?
A: The green bar shows the relevance of the suggested song to the current point in the party, based on the order of songs that you've played till now.Add BPM threshold to setting page.
Q: I get suggestions on songs that I load to the deck, even if I haven’t played them to the speakers.
A: When a track is loaded to the deck, Serato and other DJ softwares write the name of the track into the history file, and PulseDJcan't know if it was played or just queued, so recommends next songs for that track. A work-around is to press the left arrow next to the 'now playing' in Pulse, and get back to the prev. song and its suggestions
Performance & Reliability
Q: Will PulseDJ impact my DJ software’s performance or audio latency?
A: PulseDJ runs alongside your DJ software and does not alter audio processing. If you experience slowdowns, close unused apps and ensure your library paths are correct.
Q: What are recommended hardware specs for the best experience?
A: A modern multi-core CPU, 8 GB RAM or more, SSD storage for your library, and up-to-date versions of your DJ software and PulseDJ are recommended.
Q: PulseDJ feels slow when my library is huge. Any tips?
A: Keep libraries tidy, consolidate duplicate files, ensure external drives are fast and connected directly, and verify correct history paths in Profile settings.
Integration Details
Q: Does PulseDJ work with streaming libraries inside DJ software?
A: If your DJ software writes streamed tracks to history, PulseDJ can use that history. Availability depends on how your DJ app logs streamed plays.
Q: Can I use PulseDJ with multiple DJ apps on the same computer?
A: Yes. Switch apps as you like. Ensure PulseDJ’s Profile settings point to the history of the app you’re currently using.
Q: How often does PulseDJ read the history file?
A: Frequently enough to react to tracks you load and play in near real time, without interfering with your performance.
Language, UI & Accessibility
Q: Is there a dark mode or high-contrast mode?
A: Dark mode is supported. We’re evaluating additional accessibility options like increased contrast and larger UI text scaling.
Q: Can I change the key display format?
A: Yes, there is an option to switch between Camelot and standard keys in the preferences page. INSERT SCREENSHOT.
Q: The font size is small on my display. Can I scale the UI?
A: Yes. Check the settings for interface scaling options suited to high-resolution or smaller screens. INSERT FULL DETAILS
Language & Character Support
Q: PulseDJ isn't reading my songs with Greek characters in the titles. Is this supported?
A: Currently, certain character sets may not be fully recognized. The PulseDJ team has confirmed that official support for the Greek language and its characters will be added in a future release.
Data, Privacy & Control
Q: Which information does PulseDJDJ collect from DJs?
A: On our homepage you can see how many parties PulseDJhas analyzed and the number of song-pairs analyzed.
When a DJ installs Pulse, their stats (songs played) are anonymously added to the millions of songs already in the database.
This helps PulseDJrecommend tracks that the DJ has typically played after each track, and also fine-tunes PulseDJAI’s track selection algorithm to suggest better tracks for everyone.
PulseDJ keeps your data anonymous, so no other DJ can see your specific track history. As you continue using Pulse, it collects this information in the same anonymized way to improve future recommendations.
